Out for the "Count"
As Bisping stepped into the ring on Saturday night to face his TUF rival Dan Henderson on Saturday night, you could see his prefight jitters all coming to the surface at once! He looked much more nervous than in previous fights, and with good reason. He had never faced an opponent with such experience, he had never been in the cage where he wasn't the favourite, and he had certainly never been hit as hard as we was about to be hit! Bisping had a huge mountain to climb right from the start. He had come to the USA to fight a former 2 time United States Olympian. An Olympian who not only ruled PRIDE as the ONLY MMA competitor to hold belts in 2 weight classes simultaneously, but who also has won more MMA tournaments than any other competitor in history. Yet, with a career MMA record of 18 and 1, he courageously took a fight that on paper didn’t' look good for him. Anyone who watched season 9 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) knows there was definitely no love lost between these two men, and while Bisping, always the more colourful of the two, had been taunting Henderson, they would ultimately settle their differences on in the octagon. Hendo's huge right hand is legendary and coming into the fight Bisping knew it. He continued to circle into Hendo’s power and as I watched I could tell it was just a matter of time. For Bisping, I think he underestimated his opponent, and for Hendo, I think this is the motivation he needed to return to his roots and remind the world why he is considered one of the top pound for pound fighters to have ever entered the Octagon. Bispings final moments came at 3:20 in the second round when Dan "Hollywood" Henderson connected with a huge right hand that put "The Count" out for the count! Henderson then landing one last crushing blow from the top for good measure before being called off by the referee! So what is to become of our beloved Michael Bisping? I am interested to see how he responds to this defeat. While I do give him credit for agreeing to get into the Octagon with someone as dangerous as Henderson, I am not altogether sure if it was courage or just a young fighter's willingness to "fight anyone at anytime" which most of the time is more risk than reason. I hope that Bisping responds to this defeat in the same way that GSP came back after losing to Matt Sera, The UK MMA scene needs guys like Bisping. This fight could have been the making of Bisping had he won in grand fashion, instead after suffering one of the most devastating knock outs I have seen in UFC history, the UFC may be looking for a new face of MMA in the UK...... Dan Hardy, are you listening???

Michael Bisping, the UK's face of MMA is set all set to take on Dan Henderson this Saturday in Las Vegas at UFC 100. As this landmark event draws near however, you just have to ask..."How good is Bisping really???" Can he win against one of Pride's most feared competitors? When we take Bisping's last 5 fights and compare them to Hendo's, we quickly see a few differences. First of all, Bisping has won his last 5 while Henderson's record is 3 and 2. Bisping has defeated Chris Leben in a 3 round decision, Jason Day by TKO in the first, Charles McCarthy also by TKO in the first, Rashad Evans in a split decision and Matt Hamil in a very contriversial split decision. While I don't want to take anything away from any of these men, and with the exception of Evans, they are hardly of the same caliber as the who's who of MMA that Henderson has faced. Those men include Rich Franklyn, Rousimar Palhares, Anderson Silva, Quinton Jackson and Wanderlei Silva, losing only to Rampage and The Spider! Bisping has yet to be really tested, and I think this will be the toughest fight of his career. He does however have alot going for him, he is 8 years Henderson's junior, is a hard hitter and has an ever evolving game, and while I am a huge Hendo fan, I am eager to see The Count turn up the heat and show Mr. Hollywood how it's done....UK style!
